The laboratory was organized in April 1988 and under different names (adaptation of preschoolers and schoolchildren to primary education; comprehensive study of children's mental health problems; neuropsychosomatic pathology of childhood) continues its activities to this day.
From the founding of the laboratory until 2023, the head of the laboratory was a student of the Moscow school of neuropsychologists of A.R. Luria, Doctor of Biological Sciences, senior researcher in the specialty “Medical Psychology” - Polyakov Vladimir Matveevich. Currently, Vladimir Matveevich Polyakov is the leading researcher of the laboratory.
The purpose of the laboratory is to carry out scientific and research activities in the field of psychology, neuroscience and related specialties, staffing of scientific research, as well as attracting students to conduct scientific research under the guidance of scientists, integration of educational and scientific (research) activities in higher education.

Within the framework of the state program "Key patterns and mechanisms of formation of health disorders of children and adolescents as the basis of preventive and curative measures" (2021-2025), the following task is performed: to identify patterns of development of higher mental functions and their influence on the formation of psychosomatic pathology depending on the habitat of urban and rural children of Siberia.
The laboratory staff participates in the implementation of exploratory scientific research and applied technologies jointly with other departments of the Scientific Center.
