The Laboratory of Pathophysiology (until 2015 - Laboratory of Pathophysiology of Reproduction) was established in 1987, and it was a structural unit of the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine SB RAMS. In 1989, the Laboratory was transferred to the Institute of Surgery, and since 1990, it was part of the Institute of Pediatrics. At present, it is a subdivision of Scientific Center for Family Health and Human Reproduction Problems.
The main subject area of the Laboratory is the study of the regularities of metabolic reactions in formation of adaptive-compensatory processes in various pathological conditions, considering age, gender and ethnic characteristics of the population of Eastern Siberia.
Currently, the Laboratory has accumulated the extensive information base to conduct the comprehensive analysis and assessment of the role of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defence (POL-AOD) processes in membrane cell pathology in specific diseases, as well as the integration of laboratory diagnostics with other scientific studies, carried out in the Scientific Center. Such a systematic approach makes it possible to develop an innovative method of influencing the disease and the patient, the essence of which is to strictly personalize the diagnostic, treatment and prevention strategy, considering the features of the proteome and metabolome.
From the foundation of the Scientific Centre and on until 2015, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Lyubov Ilinichna Kolesnikova was the head of the Laboratory.
A team of a scientific school was formed, based on the Laboratory of Pathophysiology under the management of Academician of the RAS Kolesnikova L.I., who for several years had become the winner of the competition for state support of leading scientific schools of the President of the Russian Federation: the project Studying the Regularities of Metabolic Reactions in the Formation of Adaptive-Compensatory Processes in Various Pathological Conditions in Different Ethnic Groups Depending on Environmental Factors (2010-2012); project The Role of Oxidative Stress in the Formation of Adaptive-Compensatory Reactions of the Body under Various Pathological Conditions in Various Gender Groups of Eastern Siberia (2012-2014). In addition, the laboratory staff has repeatedly been given grants from various funds: a grant from the Regional Public Fund for the Promotion of Domestic Medicine in the category Biomedical Sciences (2007-2010) (headed by Dr. Sc. (Biol.) Darenskaya M.A.); RFBR grant Competition of Scientific Projects of Young Scientists for Presentation at Scientific Events Held Abroad (headed by Dr. Sc. (Biol.) Darenskaya M.A.); RFBR grant Search for the Association of Polymorphic Markers of the Clock Gene with Desynchronization of the Circadian Rhythms of Melatonin in Women of Different Ethnic Groups in the Menopause (headed by Dr. Sc. (Biol.) Semenova N.V.); grant of the President of the Russian Federation The glutathione System as a Biomarker of the Severity of the Climacteric Syndrome in the Ethnic Aspect (headed by Dr. Sc. (Biol.) Semenova N.V.) Young scientists of the Laboratory have repeatedly received diplomas and prizes of the Presidium ESSC SB RAMS; Government of the Irkutsk region.
The laboratory staff have published more than 600 articles in leading Russian and foreign journals, such as the Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Therapeutic Archive, Human Physiology, the Journal of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry, Russian Journal of Physiology, S.S. Korsakov Journal of Neurology and Psychiatry, Siberian Scientific Medical Journal, Pathological Physiology and Experimental Therapy, Obstetrics and gynecology, Advances in Gerontology, Human Ecology, Pediatria named after G.N. Speransky, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, Free Radical Biology & Medicine, Chronobiology International, Maturitas, Journal of Sleep Research, Sleep, Sleep Medicine, Diabetes Technology & Therapevtics, Chest, Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology, and others.
The Laboratory carries out joint experimental studies with the institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on preclinical / clinical testing of new compounds with antioxidant properties (nano-selenium, chelate zinc compound, trekrezan, elkar, α-lipoic acid, etc.), cooperates with research institutes (Irkutsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ulan-Ude, etc.), institutions of higher professional education: universities, institutes, academies (Irkutsk) and practical healthcare institutions (Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude).
Seven doctoral and 7 candidate's dissertations have been defended. Currently, 1 dissertation is being prepared to procure the degree of candidate of medical sciences.
